C 295

Following the meetings this Thursday, September 7, and next Monday, September 11, there will be “recap” session, Wednesday, September 13.  Terry Hajduk, our consultant architect and HSK, the lead architectural firm for the construction of the Learning Community building, will bring back to the EFC community

  1. What they heard in the meetings on September 11;
  2. What they are looking to design to address the input from the EFC community;
  3. What the design of learning spaces will be like in addressing the input received in the September 11 sessions.

Everyone is invited to be present to hear the presentation and to enter into any further discussion, and question and answers about this significant structure that will help direct the future of EFC as a learning college.

More Information On Learning Communities

Wednesday, September 6th, 2006

Some have asked, “What is the Learning Community/Learning Spaces Concept?” The session scheduled for this Thursday, September 7, 1:00 pm is to begin the information sharing on the Learning Community concept. This meeting will be in S101, (it was previously announced as meeting in C135) and will be directed by Ed Roy from Steelcase’s Higher Education Division. The purpose of this special session is to present information on the Learning Community philosophy. You need to be present for this presentation. Questions and answers will follow.

Time Schedule For Visits With Terry Hajduk

Wednesday, September 6th, 2006

Monday, September 11 in H100
Wednesday, September 13 in C295

Meetings with our consultant architect for the Learning Community building, Terry Hajduk, are being arranged for Monday, September 11. These meetings will be scheduled in 30 minute slots. We will accommodate as many as possible. We especially want those who are thinking about becoming an active part of the new learn community (learning spaces) concept to be present to talk with Terry. This would involve not only the faculty, but also support staff, PSS personnel who work most closely with the faculty utilizing the new learning community philosophy, and the Division Deans.

Here is a PDF file identifying 10 questions for you to consider before coming to the Monday, September 11 meeting. In fact you need to look over these questions before the meeting on Thursday, September 7, described in the next entry.

Call either Lindle Grigsby (7199) or Ann Ross (7198) and reserve a time for your meeting with Terry Hajduk. If you do not register as a team we may have to place two or three others with you for the discussion so we can accommodate as many as possible.

Learning Community Information Gathering/Sharing Dates at Eastfield College

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

The “Learning Communities” concept is what will drive the planning and construction of the new facilities to be built by Eastfield College. At these meetings we will be sharing information about the Learning Community concept. On Monday, September 11, Terry Hajduk will be collecting information regarding the design and preparation of the new Eastfield College Learning Community facility.

Thursday, September 7, 1 – 3 pm, “Learning Communities” will be presented by Ed Roy, Higher Education Division of Steelcase. This is an exciting, must be present participation. Room: C135.

Monday, September 11, 9 am – 3 pm, Terry Hajduk, architectural consultant working with the design of the new Learning Communities building, will be meeting with various groups of staff and administrators from 9 – noon, and with faculty from 1 – 3 pm. These small group meetings will take place in H 100, ON A SCHEDULED BASIS. Get with your Dean and pull your teams together. Contact me or Ann Ross for a scheduled time to meet with Terry Hajduk (Lindle – 7199; Ann – 7198).

Wednesday, September 13, 1 – 3 pm, in C 295. Terry Hajduk and HKS Architects will be presenting the information they collected on Monday and what they heard from the personnel at EFC concerning the development of the Learning Communities building. Action notes regarding Learning Spaces July 21

Wednesday, August 9th, 2006

Learning Spaces Architect

HKS signed contract should be back from Purchasing by the first of next week and then HKS will receive a notice to proceed.  HKS is scheduled next week to review Facilities Services documents for background information.  HKS’s first meeting at the campus is tentatively scheduled for the week of August 7.

Susan Hansen distributed a program status report (See Attachment #1.)  Final programming decisions are needed by the end of August (or at least for the Child Development Center.)   Lindle noted that Bill Middleton is no longer a contact person; all contacts should be made directly with Susan Hansen.

To prepare a site plan and recommend where to put the Learning Spaces Building, HKS will consider the needs of the PCSC, needs of T Building and Workforce Development, utility locations and traffic flow.

Lindle noted that it is important to review all resources on what learning spaces are through the resources shared so far or via other resources before Terry Hajduk meets with us.  Meetings with faculty will begin during reporting week.

Lindle and Carol will develop a timeline for decisions.
